Feeling Chillin'
Just catching up...
Snag and tag or have tagged if you want...
Boy, it has been a hot week here in Middle Tennessee. We reached 101 degrees on Monday and 100 on Tuesday. Today is a much better due to a nice thunder boomer that passed over in the last couple of hours. Of course the sun is trying to come out now so it will probably get steamy. I think I will just stay inside in the air conditioning. I hope all the folks in the path of Hurricane Dolly are staying safe today.
I pretty much just rested up on Sunday. The yard sale was a success for all of us but it sure was tiring out in the heat (even with an umbrella to sit under). Monday was a day of trying to catch up on alerts (a lost cause), and working on my tag club challenges. If anyone is interested in a great tag club just let me know and I will tell you how to join. We have some great tagger's and lot's of people that don't tag but join in the daily games and collect tags.
Yesterday I decided it was time to work on my computer files. OMG what a mess. It took me all day but I got it done. I can actually find what I'm looking for now. When you PSP you tend to collect a lot of supplies and I had been putting them all in one folder. I ended up with 16 different folders when I was finished, and each one is pretty full.
I found someone who is local that will transfer my old video tapes to DVD's for a reasonable price. I have about 30 tapes that need to be transferred and I am really looking forward to getting them back. There is lot's of vacation type video's but the one I look forward to most is the birth of my granddaughter in 1997. They let me video practically the whole event. When my kids were born, no one was even allowed in the room with me. Times have sure changed. Anyway, my grandson was delivered by C-Section so no video until he was out of the delivery room. He was 10 lbs. 4 ozs. and I think that was the main reason for the C-Section. Ouch! My other grandson was adopted by my son and daughter-in-law when he was 5 years old. So no birthing tape there either. Have a good rest of the week everyone...
Thank you Donna for the sweet tag.

Feeling Thoughtful
YARD SALE
This week has been spent getting ready for a 5 family yard sale
that we had in my yard starting on Thursday at 7:00 a.m. and ending
at 2:00 today, Saturday. Can we say HOT!
It was a chore trying to stay cool. It reached 97 degrees here today.
We worked hard but it paid off. Everyone made money and we
didn't have much stuff to haul back in. We will do this again
in October when our little town has what is called Oktoberfest
and people come from miles around for the 10 miles of yard
sales that goes past my apartment. I am in the perfect spot...LOL.
Even my 7 year old grandson sold some of his old toys and made a few bucks. He's was a happy camper until his mother told him he could
NOT buy BB or a Pellet gun with the money.
I hope everyone has a terrific rest of the weekend.

Frightening Lightening

What a beautiful day this is. Not a cloud in the sky and a nice 85 degrees. Darn near perfect, I'd say. Not the case Saturday night when we had a ferocious electrical storm come through around the midnight hour. I was awakened by the noise and one huge bolt of lightning followed by an earthquake of a thunder clap. The next thing I heard was my smoke detector going off. No, there was no fire, but I could not get it to go off. I called our emergency maintenance number and someone came out and dismantled it. It was then we discovered that every smoke alarm on my street was going off. That's 16 apartments. I was surprised that more help came and all new alarms were put up right then. It was quite a night with everyone out in the street in their night clothes visiting while the noise was stopped...LOL.
After talking about the Super Walmart in my last entry, it started me thinking about our little town. I moved here in 1980 and at that time there was a big wooden sign on the road that read "Coming Soon - Walmart". That sign actually rotted before they built the store and then it was more of a Walmart starter kit. It was the smallest Walmart I had ever seen. They didn't think our little town could handle anything bigger I guess, but they didn't account for all the surrounding counties that came here to shop (because they didn't have a Walmart in those little towns either). Now look at us. A Super Walmart. Of course it doesn't have an auto center or McDonalds or Vision Center or Bank. That's for the bigger towns...(they just haven't learned yet...grin).
The Chickasaw Indians had this town before the white man. The one who discovered our town was the famed Meriwether Lewis (of Lewis and Clark fame) and in fact, he is buried here. So even though we are a small, rural Tennessee town we do have some distinctions. After all, do you have an Elephant Sanctuary in your town? www.Elephants.com We do.

Feeling Lazy
Gone too long...
All graphics are snaggable and may be tagged...
Hello everyone. I know I have been absent this week. Pretty much in a funk for some reason. The most I managed to do this week was go get my hair cut and catch up on all the local gossip at the beauty parlor (always an interesting place for conversation...lol). I guess the biggest news is that our one decent sized grocery store is closing. A few months ago our little town was blessed to get a Super Walmart that has attracted lots of shoppers from surrounding little towns. But the one-stop-shopping of Walmart has taken business away from the grocery store and caused it to close down. I feel bad for the employee's and hope they all find other employment.
Soooo, other than getting a tag posted, that's all I have for today. I will try to do better but make no promises. Tomorrow Son and I will do our monthly Walmart thing. I still have a lot of freezer food left from the last trip so maybe I won't take so long this time. Son has a lot of patience with me. I am slow and I'm a label reader and I like to go down every isle of the store (even though I have a list with me)...lol. He strolls along with me and never complains. He does all the loading and un-loading of my purchases (the main reason for his joining me on this monthly trip). I hope everyone has a nice weekend and week ahead.

This 'n That and Reflections
Snag, tag or have tagged if you want...

I wasn't going to make an entry today but DB at Vagabond Journey made me feel guilty so thanks a lot DB...LOL. Here is his link. If you don't read his journal, you are missing out. He has some thought provoking entries and a lot of interesting and fun things to talk about and does it very well. well...http://journals.aol.com/dbdacoba/VagabondJourneys/
So, our 4th of July celebration went very well and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I was exhausted when it was over and that is a sign that I had a good time as well. Hope everyone else has had a great weekend.
Continuing with my "Reflections" Q&A...
Question: Do you have a memory of a camping type vacation?
Answer: We never went camping but the best vacation we ever had was a kind of 'roughing it' vacation. I was about 16 and my boyfriend had joined the Air Force and was stationed in Boloxi, MS. My parents, brother and I went to see him for a weekend. After the weekend was over my adventurous mother decided it would be fun to just go on to Connecticut from there. We stayed in a rustic cabin on a beautiful lake. We had no running water (we had to go to a pump and get water by the bucket) and no inside plumbing...only an outhouse. No electricity so we cooked breakfast and supper on a big brick outside fireplace. We each had three outfits and a bathing suit with us and we stayed for a whole month. I can't remember any planned vacation that was nearly as much fun as this one was.
Question: Describe the most fascinating place you have visited.
Answer: It would be difficult to single out just one place. I have been in several countries including Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Austria, and all were amazing in the eyes of a child. As an adult I have been to Hawaii, Thailand and Japan and all were fascinating and beautiful in different ways. Some of the most beautiful places and sights can be seen all across the country we live in too.
On a lighter side, I would have to include Las Vegas, Disney World, Universal Studio's and Sea World (my favorite). The world is full of interesting and fascinating places. I hope each one of you get to experience some of them.
That's it for now. I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Feeling Cheerful
Happy Holiday Y'all

My week has been an AOL nightmare this week. I made it through Monday and then AOL ate my mail. I tried to restore several times with no luck. I talked to people who I couldn't understand at AOL (or India maybe) and they were as much help as my neighbor's cat.
Anyway, I had to turn off my Journal alerts or my mailbox would have been completely out of control (I have 63 alerts set...time to go through them...lol).
This morning I finally just un-installed AOL and loaded it back again and now I'm cookin' again.
So tomorrow my block has it's annual 4th of July get together. I live in an apartment complex and our little cull-de-sac has 16 apartments in it and we ALL have a group cookout/potluck and fireworks celebration every year. It's great fun and wonderful to get out and talk to everybody. So many are busy and working and we just don't do it enough. Another plus for me is that my daughter and two of my grand kids live here also. I'm bringing baked beans and macaroni and pea salad as my contribution. We have 5 grills set up and everyone will be cooking something different...like one will do the hot dogs, one the hamburgers, one the brats etc. YUM!
Following all the food (and after dark), the men will put on a fireworks display for us all in the center of the cull-de-sac. The kids love it (so do I).
I hope everyone has a lovely holiday and gets to enjoy your family and friends.

Stuff
Snag or tag or have tagged if you want...
First I want to thank Ken from http://journals.aol.com/buckoclown/Bucko/ for making me a Guest Editor pick on Magic Smoke this week. I greatly appreciate it Ken and congrats to you for being selected Guest Editor.
What a beautiful day it is turning out to be. Wonderful breeze outside and lot's of sunshine. Looks like a good day to get out of this apartment for a while. Right now I am waiting for my son to bring me a promised watermelon from Walmart. I love watermelon and they have had seedless one's on sale for $4.98 for a couple of weeks. He and I split one last week and it was so sweet and good we decided to do it again.
I am also waiting for my daughter and her friend to come over and put a book shelf together for me. Daughter got it for me for Mother's Day and it is still in the box. LOL. Everyone is so busy. I am a book hoarder and my bookcase is full to the brim. She got me a 6 footer so it should take a while to fill it. grin.
I am missing my granddaughter. She is spending a month with her Dad and it sure seems like a long month. She won't be home until July 14th. I talked to her yesterday and she said she was having fun but that she was homesick. This is the longest she has ever been away. She has a half sister that is close to her age there so at least she has someone to spend time with during the day when Dad is at work. Step-mom is tending to infant twin boys so she doesn't have much extra time either. The two girls like to help with the babies though so I'm sure Step-mom is glad they are their.
As for her brother Brandon, he is missing his Sissy too. Boy, he is brown as a berry. He sure tans nice. He told me the other day that his sister would be surprised because he is as dark as her now (Jackie is bi-racial). He's not quite that dark, but I didn't tell him...lol. As for the birdseed bell I bought and hung up...the birds don't like it. Grandson got some pinecones from the woods behind his apartment and smeared peanut butter on them and then birdseed and hung them from the clothesline and the birds are loving them. Go figure. He said he learned that from his teacher last year in first grade. I guess they made some and hung them at school. Pretty clever.
Well, that's it for now. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

More Reflections
Snag and tag or have tagged if want...
Good morning everyone. Once again I don't have much to tell. My weekend consisted of getting the Walmart thing out of the way, doing a little housework and hanging a bird seed bell in the tree off my front porch (which, so far, the birds are not a bit interested in). I have felt so much better (still finishing up antibiotics) and the weather has been beautiful so I have ventured outside quite a bit. I'm even getting a bit of a tan, although I haven't been trying to do that. I'm not much of a sun worshipper. With that little bit of information I will continue on with my "Reflections of a Mother's Heart".
Question: Describe your mother in her best dress.
Answer: Mom was beautiful to me no matter what she was wearing. She was a very attractive woman and she dressed up a lot (for church, or shopping or going out to dinner and/or dancing with Dad. I think the prettiest I ever saw her was at my brother's wedding. I have a picture of her and Dad hanging on my living room wall from that occasion. Her hair and make up were always perfect and she wore her clothes well. She was just pretty to me all the time.
1940...Wedding Day
1966, Mom and me
Question: How old were you when you met our Dad and what attracted you to him?
Answer: I was 23 when I met your father. I already had (oldest son) and he was almost a year old. Your Grandma kept son while I went to work in a doctor's office. I used to walk a couple of blocks to a diner for lunch and that's where I first saw your dad. When I went back to work that day, I told the other girls that I had seen the best looking man I'd ever seen. The very next day your dad came into the doctor's office with an injury to his foot that happened on the job. He asked me out and the rest is history. I loved his laugh and he was a father to (oldest son) from the first time he saw him and adopted him shortly after we married. It was sad that he died so young (40 yrs. old) and didn't get to see you kids grow up, but I know he loved you and is watching you every day.
Note: The kids were 8, 10 and 12 when he passed away of a heart attack. My youngest says she doesn't remember much about him but the boys say they do. Fortunately, they had a great grandfather who was their male role model as they grew up.
Until next time, stay safe and enjoy this summer weather.

Feeling Listless
Update and a couple of 'Reflections'
Snag and tag or have tagged if you want...
Hello everyone. Boy, it feels like I haven't written in months. I did manage an entry for Father's Day though. I've been having problems with ear infections for over a week now. I've gotten shots and ear drops and antibiotics, but so far little has improved. I feel a little bit better today but am taking a pain killer as well and that keeps the pain at bay for a period of time. So, I thought I would take this window to catch you all up.
The good news is all the kittens have a new home and they got to stay together. They are on a farm and are the only kitty cats among a mirage of other animals. They seemed happy and were ready to explore their new surroundings. I'm really glad they are all together. They had such a hard start in life I'm hoping they have a good time from now on.
The weather has been perfect for the last few days, although I haven't been out to enjoy it much. Today it is overcast and looks like it might rain later today and tomorrow. The temps are staying in the low to mid 80's though and the humidity as been down, so very pleasant for sitting on the porch when I feel like it.
Continuing with my series of "Reflections", here are a couple more Q & A's from my book...
Question: How old were you when you understood about God? Recall your early thoughts about God.
Answer: I was very young because my mom made sure brother and I knew about God's love for us. We understood what Christmas was about and were usually in a Christmas play in church. We celebrated Easter with a basket from the Easter Bunny but not until after we went to church. As a child, I just thought God was some magical, wonderful person that looked out for everyone and I liked it when we prayed together every night.
Question: What fashions were popular when you were in high school? Did you like them?
Answer: Bobbie socks and Oxford shoes, poodle skirts and pony tails; a child of the fifties (a baby boomer), I grew up in an era of the jitterbug and the birth of rock 'n roll. Of course, I loved the fads and, like most kids, wanted to fit in with everyone else. So spandex pants and sneakers were no stranger to me. Of course, in school girls had to wear dresses or skirts.
That's it for today. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.
