John Scalzi's Weekend Assignment #169: Photocreativity

Weekend Assignment #169: Photocreativity

Weekend Assignment #169: Do something creative with a photo to make it look different and unusual. For those of you with Photoshop or some other photo editor, you can use filters and other techniques to do this. If you don't have a photo editing program, you might look at some of these online photo editors out there, some of which allow you fiddle quite a bit with your photos. If you'd like you can also post the original, unaltered photo so people can compare and contrast.

This is a statue by Lorado Taft called 'Eternal Silence', aka Eternity or Destiny, or something like that. It is located at Graceland Cemetary on the North Side of Chicago. According to legend, if you look into its face, you will envision your own death. I tried, but I didn't see a thing. Something down deep tells me that it doesn't mean that I'm immortal.

Anyway, the photograph is the third image. The other two were done on Paint. The first one, I repainted with brighter colors. The second, I reversed the colors. I was tempted to paint a mustache on his face, but then it occured to me that maybe I'd insult him and he'd come visit me in my dreams. My dreams are creepy enough as it is.

Extra Credit: How old were you when you got your first camera?

I think I was 21. We had old brownie type cameras sitting around when I was a kid. No one really paid any attention to them or even tried to use them until I did. But then I heard of this camera, a Poloroid SX70, that photographed images of ghosts or spectors. You guessed it. I wanted it. Bill gave it to me as either a birthday or Christmas present. I took a lot of photos, but I never took one with a ghost in it. Never even picked up an orb or fog. Then the film got too expensive. So I asked for a 35mm camera for Christmas one year.
