The word liquidation is associated with the salvage industry whereby firms liquidate their salvage goods, or overruns.
Some companies are specializing in liquidations. The method is closeouts of department store goods such as hard-goods (tools, electronics, furniture, toys…) and soft goods (clothing, domestics …) which are costumer return or overstock.
