Hearing Getting Better -- The Beatles

70 Years of Service -- For What?

A moment of silence, if you will, for Orange, Lemon and Lime, the LifeSavers flavors that are getting the boot in the classic "Five Flavors" roll after 70 years. It's interesting to note that the flavors replacing them -- Raspberry, Blackberry and Watermelon -- aren't exactly extreme flavors (other flavor candidates included Tangerine and Mango Melon), but still, it's a little sad. One hates to anthropomorphize one's hard candies, since it bespeaks of a little too much mental free time, but: Where will these flavors go? What will they do? I envision a new LifeSavers roll: Five Failed Flavors, in which Orange, Lemon and Lime are lumped in with the aforementioned Mango Melon and Tangerine, all in one sullen, grouchy and discount-priced package. Heck, I'd buy it.
