Blog Jog #1
Getting your feet wet in the ocean of blogs and journals? Let me suggest a few for you to try.
InstaPundit -- Arguably the single most influential blogger out there, Glenn Reynolds updates constantly (dare we say, obsessively?) with a wide range of links and comments. There's a definite political and social point of view, but Reynolds holds true to the blogger ethos of linking even to those with whom he disagrees. A fine example of how blogs can work.
Talking Points Memo -- One of the most notable liberal political bloggers, Josh Marshall is a Washington columnist and thinker (and, may I add, a former classmate of mine) who has been on top of some of the biggest political stories out there. Many observers have noted how the blogosphere leans right, but Josh is proof that it's big enough to accommodate all voices.
The Bleat -- The Blogosphere's resident humorist. James Lileks is a newspaper columnist and book author whose comfortable observational style rests side-by-side with a sharp wit. Lileks isn't afraid to rant about the big events of the day, but he's equally at home discussing his many loves which include his Mac, his mind-boggling collection of Americana, and his daughter Gnat. A pleasure to read on a daily basis.
MetaFilter -- What happens when 17,000 people who are smarter than is good for them get together to swap links? You get MetaFilter, one of the finest "group blogs" out there. Topics are all over the board, but pull towards the geeky and/or lefty. If you only read the front page and skip the comments, you're missing more than half of the fun.
Pamie.com -- The single funniest woman on the Net, Pamela Ribon has caused more soda to be squirted out of people's noses and onto computer monitors than any other person online. A new novelist (her book Why Girls Are Weird is in part taken from her Web entries), Pamie's been detailing her adventures in the writing life; it's still not too late to say you were reading her "back when."

Oh, I'm so glad you linked to Pamie.com! That's one of my favorite journals out there. She's just started doing a blog (pamie.com/blog) in addition to her longer-form journal entries. Um. That's all!
