Help Me!

AOL Journals is designed to be easy to use. But there are a few questions you might have. Like:

1. Hey! I Wrote This Long Entry And When I Tried to Post It, I Couldn't! AOL Journals have an entry limit of 2500 characters – that’s about 400 words. For most blogging and journaling, that’s a good amount, but from time to time you might bump into the limit. If you're typing along and you find yourself going long, just break the entry into two (or more) entries and keep going.

Also as an FYI: Comments are limited to 500 characters (about 75 words or so). If you're moved to respond at length, try writing an entry on your own AOL Journal or other blog and posting a link to the entry as a comment.

2. Why Do I Need An AOL Account to Post Comments? Actually you don't: If you have a Compuserve or Netscape account, or (more likely) have an AOL Instant Messenger Account, you can post comments. If you don't have an account with any of these and you think you're being made to jump through hoops to comment, just dash off an e-mail to the AOL Journal owner. No, you can't leave anonymous comments, but on the other hand, if you're not willing to own up to what you say, why say it?

3. Where Are the Entries I Wrote a Couple Days Ago? The front page of AOL Journals holds your ten most recent entries. Other entries can be found by clicking on the "Older Entries" link at the top of your AOL Journals page. Click that, and there they are, arranged by month, in descending order.

4. What's This RSS Thing and What Does it Have to Do With Me? RSS means "Really Simple Syndication." Every time you post an entry, an abbreviated version is made and distributed through RSS to people with RSS readers. That way, they can see at a glance that you've updated and then come over for a fuller view. All of this is done automatically; you don't have to fiddle with it at all. And isn't that a relief.

5. How Do I Post Entries by IM? Easy: Once you've set up your AOL Journal, just send an IM with the text you want to post to screenname "AOLJournals"; it'll recognize your screenname and send your entry to your Journal. There's a limit to how much text you can send at one time, but you can also send multiple paragraphs to the same entry. So it works out.

More questions? Post them in comments and I may use them for later entries. Thanks!

Me and an buddie of mine want to use a journal to create a story, sort of like the kid game where you pass the story from one person to the next and each adds a new page chapter or scene to the tale.  Is it possible to set up a journal where 2 people can both add entries or would we need to set up as a group to do this?? If you could please  email me an answer I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

Help! Why isn't my counter working? In place of the number is a little white box with a red "x" on it.  I tried removing the counter and putting it on again but that didn't work.
