Hearing My Computer Fan -- Hey can't listen to music all the time.
Thursday Wrapup
So, here's what going on at this instant:
Justice Roy Moore is refusing to give up his Commandments monument. Quote:
"The people of this state elected me as chief justice to uphold our constitution, which established our justice system on invoking the favor and guidance of almighty God," Moore said. "To do my duty, I must acknowledge God. That's what this case is about."
But does he need to make that acknowledgement? Blogger Jon Gradowski suggests that Alabama's constitution is officially neutral on religion. Meanwhile, over at InstaPundit, Alabamans send along their mail.
At the New York Times, an interesting quote from Arnold Schwarzenegger (registration required), regarding the relative lack of figures in his campaign:
Mr. Schwarzenegger said he would not provide specifics on budget cuts during the campaign. "The public doesn't care about figures," he said.
"What the people want to hear is, are you willing to make the changes. Are you tough enough to go in there and provide leadership."
I don't know about that. I'm part of the public, and were I still living in California, I'd want some details. Leadership is nice and all, but figures are a roadmap that let people know you're not leading them off a cliff.
And here's something that's just coming out: Pete Sampras is retiring. He's younger than I am. Although, admittedly, I've not a single Grand Slam title to my name. I'm not a huge follower of tennis, so if any of you who are have some perspective on this for me, I'd be glad to hear. So tell me: How does he rank? And what does this mean for men's tennis? Outside of Agassi, I can't think of another male tennis player. That can't be good.
So if you've got thoughts to share on these or any other topics, write 'em up and sent the links to me: That's JMSJournal for AOL members and JMSJournal2@aol.com for everyone else. Links have started to come in, and all I can say is: More, please.

Although certainly not the most scintilating to watch, Samprass will go down as one of the all time greats, even if it has to be on the strenght of statistics alone. His win last year at the Open showed tremendous character set against a backdrop of age and injury.
Will he be considered better than Laver? I don't know. -
"The public doesn't care about figures,"
well, he can't very well come out and say "I don't have a damn clue about the figures" now can he? ;)
afterall, is he running as Arnold, or as the Terminator?
