Hearing Sign Your Name -- Terence Trent D'Arby

Droolable Movies

Entertainment Weekly has their list of the ten films they're itchin' to see this fall (written by my pal Gary Sussman; one day I'll share the story of what me and Gary did at the press junket for The Brady Bunch Movie. It was non-stop hilarity, I tell you). For AOLers, here's the link; for everyone else, the list is:

10. The Last Samauri
9. The Cat in the Hat
8. The Alamo
7. Mystic River
6. Mona Lisa Smile
5. Matrix Revolutions
4. Kill Bill
3. Master & Commander
2. Cold Mountain
1. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

My reaction: Eh. I'll see all of them (I have to; one of my other writing gigs is as a DVD reviewer), but of all of these, I'm only really excited about Return of the King and Kill Bill, with Revolutions just below that (clearly, I'm a guy). I'm sort of dreading Cat in the Hat, since the live-action version of The Grinch was such a total atrocity, and aside from its qualities as a story, I'm vaguely wondering in a commercial sense what the thinking is behind The Alamo at this point in time (remember, the Texans lose). Master & Commander probably is going to get a boost from, of all things, Pirates of the Caribbean, since it reminded people a little swashbuckling's kind of fun.

But really, I'll trade in the other nine to get into Return of the King early. I hate to be a fanboy, but, honestly. Lord of the Rings: Best. Fantasy. Series. Ever. Makes Star Wars look like a pile of puke. Oh, come on. You know it's true.

Tell me what you're looking forward to this fall. Any of these films get you going? Or is there something else you're waiting for?

Yep, RTK is the main movie I am going to see this fall/winter. Others, eh! They are rentals. :D

..and yes, I can see why you say that RTK is better than Star Wars. IV,V, and IX were the best, V (Empire) being the best of them all. Of course, I haven't seen III yet and I may be surprised and shocked to see that it will be the best of them all!

In all, after 28 yrs, Star Wars have done some major contributions to film making!

Oh, wow. I totally forgot about "Once Upon a Time." I'm looking forward to that as well. I also like RR's filmmaking ethos, in which he does everything related to the movie except possibly the craft service.

Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill (Volume 1) makes their list, but not the oh-so-much-more talented Robert Rodriguez' Once Upon a Time in Mexico? Desperado and the first two Spy Kids movies are some of the coolest of the past few years (not best, just coolest), and I have to think that OUaTiM, with Johnny Depp playing the villain, is going to top them all.

It won't win any awards, but it'll probably be more fun than 9 out of those 10.
