Hearing Easy -- The Commodores

Sunday Afternoon Musings

Here I am, cruising the news headlines on Sunday afternoon.

1. Bobby Brown arrested for some sort of parole violation. They nabbed him while he was eating dinner. This just seems sort of cheesy to me. Why not let the guy finish his meal -- if only so the poor waiter or waitress can get a tip? You think a distraught Whitney Houston is going to leave 20% after her man's been hauled away?

2. Bill Simon drops out of the California governor's race, bringing the number of candidates down to an easily managable 134. This does make it less resonant when Gray Davis talks about the Republicans stealing elections they can't win, since Simon was the Republican against which he ran, but other than that it doesn't do much since Simon didn't have a chance anyway.

This is the beginning of the end of the random candidates, incidentally. I think we'll continue to see people dropping out until we're left with only the serious candidates, namely Gallagher and porn star Mary Carey (yeah, you were hoping for a link there, weren't you. For shame).

3. Will the blog world elect a President? Blogger/novelist/geek hero Cory Doctrow thinks it might, and suggests those that blog and journal are slowly transforming their hobby into a real political force. This isn't terribly surprising, mind you -- there are tens of thousands of policially-oriented blogs out there, and more on the way as more bloggers and Journalers come on line.

I think it's still too early to say those who blog actually constitute a real political "bloc" -- but I'm all for anything that shakes up the political system and forces politicians to be more responsive, and recognize voters aren't merely mindless chad-punchers. You can't look at the people who write online and say "mindless" fits what they're doing.

No link? See what AOL's done to you? ;-)

Are you sure about no 'bloggers/journallers being mindless? I could name a couple...

About Bobby Brown's arrest: The article says that the police were tipped off by an anonymous caller. Why????!!!!! People really need to mind their own business. Sheesh!
