Hearing Teenage Dirtbag -- Wheatus
Must... Stop... Slobbering...
New Line Pictures is re-releasing Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers into movie theaters prior to the release of final Lord of the Rings installment Return of the King on December 17. And like the slobbering fanboy I am, I will almost certainly see both of them again, even though I've already seen Fellowship roughly 3,277 times on cable and will watch Two Towers on a more or less endless loop when I pick up the DVD. Why? Because I am, in a word, pathetic.
The real irony is that I'm not all that big a fan of the books, which I understand is utter heresy. But honestly. All those lame songs and Tom Bombadil. Really, three cheers for Peter Jackson for giving him the boot. I'm rather more interested in the world of LoTR, which is why of all of Tolkien's books, my favorite is the Simarillion. I'm a geek for the mythology rather than Tolkien's manner of writing.
The movies flood you with the feeling of the Tolkien mythology while necessarily slicing and dicing the text to get it to a manageable length (if you call what is effectively a nine-hour movie managable), which is why they work so well for me. That's the one thing I don't think people really appreciate about these movies -- so far, they represent probably the best editing to film of any literary work out there. It's an underrated but critical point.
So, who's going to be in line with me for all three? And should we acknowledge this geekfulness to the rest of the world?

I'm an insane fan. I even auditioned for that AOL contest to interview the cast on the read carpet. But, although I am female molded I think like a guy. I didnt read the directions. I submitted a 20 mintue tape and didnt offer any props. I was soooooo sad,,,,,I love the whole series. My favorite seen is when Aragon turns from the hill to kill the ugly beast that has almost killed Boromir. The way he turned was sooo sexy,,lol.....slow motion...ready to conquer

Anybody out there familiar with Johan De Meij's symphony "Lord of the Rings?"
Fantastic piece... I believe at one point they were considering using it as part of the movies' score, but decided to go with an independent composition.
*WARNING: SHAMELESS PLUG BELOW*
I'm performing it with a CWRU ensemble in Severance Hall here in Cleveland, 10/6/03... come listen! :-) -

being a geek for mythology....not a bad thing. Perhaps it's why for Anne Rice books - Queen of the Damned is my favorite since it digs into the history of her vampires and the Witching Hour since it digs there as well.
I also love the movies and look forward to the 3rd installment. While I may not be in line physically with you, I'll be there in spirit!
