Hearing Nothing. Keeping an ear out for my kid in the bath.

Sigh.

Recall fever -- it's sweeping the country:

Group plans Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn recall effort

and

Some Lawmakers Want Pennsylvania To Have Recall Powers

In both cases Republicans are at the heart of these efforts, which doesn't give other Republicans cover from the "stealing elections" meme that's sweeping the not-Republican quarters these days. Hopefully it's just a fad, like skinny ties.

I don't have any particular love for Gray Davis or the Democratic Party (and even less love for the Republican Party, but let's not get into that at the moment), but I think the grounds for recalling an elected official are pretty much confined to when you catch them accepting large non-sequential bills from industrial concerns and/or strangling kittens or the lieutenant governor. Short of that, you're stuck with 'em through their term. Election cycles are irritating enough without having them last forever.

I agree. Not happy with the job the guy you elected is doing? Too bad; you're stuck with him. Short of some horrendous, illegal activity, we should have to ride out the term. What's up with the Republicans making an end-run around that whole "election" process? Next thing you know, they'll have the Supreme Court just install the candidate they want, regardless of who wins the vote...oh, nevermind.

It scares the carp out of me (yes, I've lost my giant goldfish) that The Terminator may very well be my next governor. I think the worst part is that the Republican party doesn't care that he has no specific policies in mind, just that he can win on name recognition alone. (When faced with 100+ choices on the ballot, who do you suppose the majority of the sheep will follow?)

I am so glad that I don't live in California.

    I love the Midwest. :D
