Hearing Twisty Bass -- Neil Finn
Attack of the Killer Carp
Man, I just live for stories like this: The fish are fighting back. The story details two species of carp recently introduced to Missouri that become so enraged by the sound of boat engines that they actually attack the boat, along the way causing literal headaches for the people in the boat. It's just so ridiculous, and yet there's something also most Twilight Zone about it, as if the fish were finally wising up to what all those hooks were about.
On a scientific note, one has to wonder what evolutionary process led to these fish attacking sounds like the boat noise. The fish aren't actually cognizant of how many of their fellows we've been turning into fish sticks, so there has to be something in nature analogous to the sound that drives them equally nuts. Do they think it's food? Do they think it's a threat? If only fish could talk. Although if fish could talk, they'd probably just say "hey, all that food you're sending to us has pointy things in it. What, are you trying to kill us or something?" Can't get anything past those fish.
