Hearing Good Enough -- Sarah McLachlan
Music Awards
I missed the MTV Video Music Awards last night, on account that rather than watch people socialize and carouse on TV, I went ahead and socialized and caroused myself. What a refreshing change! Be that as it may, I'm catching up on it in the news reports and have some thoughts:
* I'm guessing that the clip of Madonna snogging on Britney Spears and Christina Aguliera is at this very moment the single most downloaded video on every peer-to-peer network that exists on this planet.
* Eminem seems to be developing a sense of humor, since he mocked himself this year for last year's incident in which he tried to pick a fight with a hand puppet. This is all well and good for Eminem, who has always struck me as the Celebrity Most In Need of Hugs. But this means that my dream, in which Eminem comes out with a song called "Puppet Fight" in which he slams on Bert and Ernie, Lamb Chop and Howdy Doody, is now nothing but a fading hope. I'll try to make it through the pain.
* My estimation of Justin Timberlake gets kicked up a notch by both his reaction to winning the Best Pop Video ("This is a travesty! I demand a recount!") and by his very appropriate praise for Johnny Cash. That was class enough that I'll no longer consider telling him that he should study George Michael's career arc very, very closely.
Did you watch the MTV VMAs? Your thoughts?
