Private Journals
We're getting a lot of questions asking if there's any way to make journals private -- that is, accessible only to certain people (whom presumably one would give passwords or some such). The answer to that is that at the moment that's not possible, but since that's something a lot of you are asking for, it's one of the things we'll be thinking about for future additions.
One thing I would note: Even if you could make your journals "invite-only," there's still a chance that something in the journal could make it out to others, possibly by one of the invitees cutting and pasting something you've written into an e-mail to someone else. So to that regard, you'd still want to think about what you write, which is something we chatted about in an earlier post here. "Private" would be a relative term (unless, of course, you wanted it to be private strictly for your own use).
Anyway: Thanks for letting us know that's something you're interested in. We hear you.

I understand why some ppl would want their journals private, but it's not like ppl are just sitting on the computer looking through other ppl's journals. i mean their are some creeps out there like that but the chances of them looking at urs are slim. and if ur that concerned about it then you shouldn;t have an online journal. it's just common sense to not to have an online journal if ur worried about ppl reading it.

Thanks for your helpful entries on blogs and journals. I'm new to this and can use all the tips and advice I can get! LOVE to write! Your entries are clearly written and easy to read---keep it up, please! I read a few of your personal ones, too, and you are great at this!

PS How about something on the history of blogs? -
can you invite readers to participate in your private journal by adding their non-aol email addresses in the add readers window. If so, how? I have done this & get a window saying readers must have a valid screen name.

pardon the intrusion .. outsiders (non-aol members) CAN view the journal but can't comment unless they're hooked up with compuserve, netscape or aim
least thats my understanding :)
