A Gray Day
The California recall election is delayed, and it's no surprise that in every photo accompanying a news story about it, Governor Gray Davis is smiling like the proverbial Cheshire Cat. Every delay buys him more time, and costs his competitors more money, and every extra day California voters have to think about a recall, the less they'll seem inclined to go ahead with it (or so Davis hopes).
The ostensible reason for the delay is that voting machines in several California counties aren't up to snuff, and although people are going to complain about it, I don't think it's a bad excuse. After Florida, the last thing anyone should want is an election where people will have the opportunity to complain that their votes weren't counted accurately. The recall is enough of a circus without adding a whole new sideshow.
Of course, I don't expect everyone to agree. Indeed, I hope not: I'm interested in knowing if you fine folks think this delay is for a good and legitimate purpose, or just a way for the courts to fiddle with stuff to the governors advantage. Tell me your opinion -- and explain why you believe what you do (opinions are always better that way, I think). Send along those links to JMSjournal (for AOLers) or JMSJournal2@aol.com (for everyone else). Or drop a note (or a link) into the comments.

Every day they delay it further gives Gray Davis another day to pull Cali deeper in debt. I am all for the recall. He has done nothing good for Cali. Oh yeah wait he gave the illegals driver licenses.. Wooohoooo Compadre Davis

Sounds like you're on track with this one. I live in Ca and it's becoming a joke out here.
John.
