Pictures in Your Journal -- A New Way
">
Okay, technically, I'm not supposed to be able to right align a photo like I'm doing here, and yet -- look at the photo! It's right aligned. I know, I know. I'm scared too. But there's a reason for this. And I will get to it.
It all started with an e-mail sent to me by AOL Journaler His1desire -- she was able to create animated GIFs in an entry, but she wasn't exactly sure how she was doing it and asked if anyone knew. Well, I'm supposed to know these things, right? So I fiddled with it in my test Journal, and here's what I came up with. The answer is mildly technical, so bear with me for a second.
Turns out the "Create Hyperlink" button is able to accept other HTML coding aside from URLs. For example, if you enter the HTML commands for positioning pictures ("<img SRC="enter picture url here">") they'll work -- the secret is not to attach the coding to any particular text. In the case of the picture here, I clicked in the space right before the text, hit the "Create Hyperlink" button, and entered the coding. The picture actually shows up in the text window (note that there will be some characters created at the very beginning which you may or may not want to delete), and then you write around it.
Bear in mind that doing this requires that the picture is already up somewhere online -- preferably in your AOL Hometown pages (don't link to pictures you don't have permission to link to). Also, of course, it requires you know a little bit about HTML coding, especially if you want to do things like align pictures or add spacing around the edges.
So, anyway, there you have it -- a new way to put pictures in your AOL Journals. Thanks to His1desire for the e-mail, and for bringing it to my attention. And if any of the rest of you find new ways to do stuff -- send 'em along!
(The picture, by the way: My wife and the new car. When I brought it to her after buying it, I also brought her the ball and said "Congratulations, you're officially a soccer mom!" Man, I'm a riot.)
