Hearing Around This Corner -- Sarah Harmer

Breakfast of Champions!

Picture from Hometown

Behold! The fuel that powers me through my morning of AOL Journaling: M&Ms and Diet Cherry Coke. The M&Ms, I trust, are self-explanatory. As for the Diet Cherry Coke, well, recently I've become aware that I no longer have the metabolism of a 18-year-old college student, and indeed barely have the metabolism of the lazy 34-year-old computer dork that I am. Given that I will suck back three sodas a day if left to my own devices, I had the choice of drinking regular soda and eventually becoming a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, or switching over to diet soda. I made the switch. I should note that the acceptance of the need for diet soda was a far larger blow to my masculine self-image than buying a minivan was. I have to wonder what says about me.

I'm sure the dieticians among you recoil in horror at the idea that I start my day (and most days) with an infusion of chocolate and caffeine rather than a nutritious, complete breakfast, but you know. There are worse vices. A half century ago, writers started their day by slugging back two ounces of Jim Beam and smoking six cigarettes in a four-minute period before going off to write about the school board meeting. If those writers were ever to meet me, they'd beat me up in the men's room for sure. M&Ms and Diet Cherry Coke aren't exactly upholding the grand writing tradition of debilitating addictions.

The point of this entry? None at all. Just thought y'all might be interested in what gets me going for the day (well, through to lunch, anyway). Here it is, in all its chocolatey, caffeinated glory.

Behold, from the vantage point of a few decades and many cases of soda and bags of M&M's later - I see a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft in your future. Get off that office chair and start exercising or you WILL join me on that slippery slope with one foot in the grave and the 'tother on the banana peel!

Opps I am new to this and I just kept clicking the button, so forgive me for my continual responses. If anyone can teach me how to do this new "world" of journals please feel free to e mail me and let me know some pointers. Just make sure you put in the subject matter what the e mail is about since I will not know the screen name

Personally I start my day with coffee and a lot of cream (I'm a creamaoholic!) Then I try to add in any food that has as little sugar as possible since I am getting that from my flavored cream. Because I am a 36 year old mother of 3, I need my caffine rush, however my hips and the rest of my body can do without the sugar or extra fat. Just try to make sure you add some glasses of water into your day with those soda's.
