Hearing True Nature -- Jane's Addiction
Busy Busy Busy
This is one of those news days that journalism students dream about. In the space of an afternoon, here's what we have:
* Bush goes to the UN to ask for help in Iraq, which I imagine is a little galling for Bush, considering the treatment his proposals got the last time he went. My own guess here is that the US will be grilled over the rhetorical hibachi for some period of time, and then the UN will pitch in and help out as requested. I'm no big fan of Bush, or the rationales provided for going into Iraq, but at the end of the day I think it was right to go in and it's in the interest of the whole world to make sure peace takes root there. So for whatever reasons Bush has gotten to this point, I think you have to give him credit for making the appeal.
* The recall election is back on. Have fun with it, you nutty kids. You know, it's kind of sad. I was born and raised in California. I remember when I moved to Virginia seven years ago and got my Virginia's driver's license, the DMV lady said "Congratulations, you're a Virginian now," and said, "No, I'm a Californian on hiatus." But since the recall election, I'm glad I'm not a Californian. That's just one election too far from sanity for me.
* More arrests for espionage at Guantanamo. This is the one news story I so wish we the public had more information about, because I swear I can't wrap my head around it. I also worry that it raises the spectre of the "Evil Muslim Among Us," which isn't going to make life any easier for the many millions of Muslims in the US who would rather spend their time worrying about jobs and homework and what to watch on TV than being perceived as some threatening "other."
* Ben and Jen together again! Kill me. Kill me now.
Tell me your thoughts on any or all of the above.
