Uppity AOL Journalers!
Some of those wacky AOL Journalers have decided that the Editor's Top Five Daily Picks (AOL only link) aren't enough -- they want more awards, presumably independent of official AOL sanction. This is just the sort of entirely unofficial, highly irregular and flagrantly independent-of-authority kind of unauthorized individual initiative that... we were really hoping you guys would get to one of these days. Really, we're just too proud over here.
Here's the link for more details. I would expect that the more AOL Journalers that pitch in, the more something like this will reflect the whole emerging AOL Journals community, so don't be shy in taking part and adding in your two cents (or more, if you feel like it).
Remember, this is something entirely unsanctioned by AOL proper; the corporate overlords have absolutely nothing to do with it. So whether it works or not is up to those who thought it up and those who take part. I don't know if this new awards idea will ever amount to much in the long run; others have thought of the idea of doing awards for online journals before, and those who have done it would tell it you that it's a ton of work and often a far more contentious process than they would have expected. So if this is going to fly, someone is going to end up needing to put in a huge amount of effort.
But I will say that in my opinion an AOL member-based effort to highlight favorite Journals is in a general sense a pretty neat idea. They're your Journals, after all. So go to it, and find new ways to recognize the AOL Journals you think do their thing really well. I'll be looking forward to see what you come up with.

John, thanks for pointing out that this is in no way affiliated with AOL; that it is purely PEER recognition. Several people are involved and a huge amount of work has already gone into it...a great amount of fun has come from it.
