Hearing Rubberband Girl -- Kate Bush

Drive Yourself Nuts

I realize that the 9 o'clock hour of a Monday morning is a little early to start driving yourself insane for the week, but you know what they say: Never put off tomorrow what you can procrastinate with today. So, here: The Album Cover Challenge. The person running this little competition has stripped out the identifying text to the covers of 60 rock/pop albums from over the decades. Your job is to identify the covers from the artwork alone.

Without putting too fine a point of it, if you can get all 60 without help, you are an incredible popular music god, and I and others should bow down to you. Most people will get a few, but almost everyone will enjoy looking at these covers stripped of their context and on display simply as art.

Absolutely, positively need to know all the answers? You're supposed to e-mail the person running the contest, but the kids over at MetaFilter have been collaborating on a comment thread with the answers (as well a high number of snarky comments. But that goes without saying).

Final note: Enjoy the cover art, people. The way things are going with music distribution, album cover art may soon be a thing of the past. When you download all your music, what will cover art cover?

Hi John, would you please NOT link directly to the image on my server - it hits my bandwidth everytime someone loads your journal, which is a little like your electricity bill getting charged every time I turn my light on. Not fair.

I'm glad you like the quiz, though. Meg.

Ew, is that off of a Van Halen album?

(I won't be very good at this game. Besides, I'm already crazy enough.)
