Hearing Wholy Holy -- Marvin Gaye

This is Kind of Sad on My Part

">

Like a lot of you, I'm listening to music more or less constantly while I work on my computer -- more, probably, than I do anywhere else, primarily because my computer holds a couple thousand tunes that I don't have to flip through to listen to. I just put the music player on random shuffle and there it is -- the Scalzi Radio Station. It makes for some interesting side by side music listens. For example, earlier in the day I was listening to the Erasure cover of the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," which was immediately followed by Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast." Which I'm willing to bet was the first time that's happened in this universe.

One interesting side effect of this -- and the fact that AOL Journals asks you to list the music you're listening to while you're writing an entry -- is that when a particularly cool song does pop up, I have an urge to write something in the journal just so I can list the cool song to which I am listening. For example, 'Wholy Holy' by Marvin Gaye, off the supercool album What's Going On. I mean, I don't have anything interesting to say at the moment. I just wanted credit for listening to Marvin Gaye. Is that so wrong?

Am I the only one who does this? Come on, back me up here.

Mmmm... "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" from the Beatles just came up. How very appropriate.

Actually, I can't listen to music while I write my Journal entries. I get too focused on the music and can't think straight. So while I'm journaling, it's quiet in my room. But, like you, I do have a bunch of toons on the computer that range from 50s rock to classical and I listen to them on random when I'm not writing.

Funny you should ask this because I was thinking something similar on the way back to work. I heard one of my old favorites: Don't You Want Me Baby. I forget who sings it, but it begins with the male singer asking why his girl, the girl he found working in a coctail bar and "picked up and turned around" won't see him anymore.

That song always makes me sad because it's about two people who still love each other breaking up. He doesn't want to break up, but she wants to move on.
