Linking Text

A couple of times a day, I get this e-mail (and not from the same person):

"Hey! I'm new to AOL Journals. How do I get links to attach to text? I don't know how to do it!"

Ah, to be experiencing blogging for the first time. Why, I remember my first link...

But never mind that now. Let's get useful. Here's how it gets done:

1. Highlight the text you want to link to by clicking on the text with your left mouse button and dragging the mouse across the word(s) with the left button held down.

2. Once you've highlighted the text, click on the "Create Hyperlink" button above the AOL Journal text entry area (it's the button that has the tiny globe on it).

3. Enter the hyperlink you want. Press "OK."

There you have it -- the hyperlink is attached to the text. Simple.

By the way, a lot of these e-mails sent to me start off "I must be a moron, but..." Look -- don't feel at all embarrassed about asking questions like this. Not everything is as obvious as those of us with lots of experience with blogs and journals think it is; we suffer from the "Stereo Instruction Syndrome," in which sometimes we're not as helpful as we could be because we already know how the thing is supposed to work. It's better to ask and get an answer, than not to ask and have no idea how to do stuff.

Also, if you all stop asking questions, I'm out of a gig. So: Questions -- bring them to me!

Wow how cool is this! I was just at Mrs. L's blog/journal whateva (yes I am a newbie not only to AOL and the big wide cyberland but to puters at all... So I freely admit I have no clue what I am doing.. ) and made a comment about this exact topic... and once I go practice how to do this... I will be able to leave the link I told her I could'nt yet.. That being said Thank You for this little "cheat sheet" item (this is a Now pad of paper with all kinds of how to's & whatnot's & shorthand codes.. That I keep beside me for my adventures in cyberland) Thanks again!
