Hearing Cold Light -- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Pathetic.

So, my wife and child are away for the week and that means -- well, that means that at the moment I'm having a lunch of beef jerky and Sprite Tropical Remix. I could argue with you that the beef jerky is actually a fine, low fat sort of thing (in fact it has only half a gram of fat per serving -- about 1% of the RDA recommended amount. On the other hand, a single serving also has 32% of the recommended sodium intake, which is not good), but I won't try to excuse it. Also, of course, the Sprite is just sugar water -- no redeeming value of any sort there.
I'm perfectly happy to admit it: I'm pretty much a mess without my family around. Friends spotted this long ago; I'm always getting ribbed about how totally domesticated I am, and how quickly I fell into it once I met my wife. And it was true, although I would pause to note that I was not exactly the world's most swinging bachelor previous to meeting my wife. The "beef jerky and soda" meal is, shall we say, not a new one on me.
Fortunately, a week is not nearly enough time to drive myself to ruin through malnutrition. Despite my efforts or lack thereof, I'm likely to survive until my wife and child get back. I'll probably be lighter, though. Which is not entirely a bad thing.

Try some Van Camp's Pork and Beans with saltines and cheese. Not too bad and really easy to prepare...just open the can. I can relate to your helplessness when the missus "ain't" around.
