Blinded Me With Science!
The New York Times has an excellent presentation today in which its "Science Times" section tackles the tough questions like: What Happened Before the Big Bang? Can Science Prove the Existence of God? Is Evolution Truly Random? and How Did Life Begin? It also asks a couple of silly ones, like Will We Ever Find Atlantis? But, you know. Gotta keep the kids amused.
Notice I said "tackles," not "answers." One of the most valuable things about this presentation is that it shows how science is -- continually and probably forever -- a work in progress. Newton described gravity, but didn't provide the answer as to what gravity was. Einstein refined the answer, but the question is still out there. And even as we speak, Einstein's description is undergoing revision... and yet there are still questions. There's almost always a better way to describe a thing, and more questions that each "answer" kicks up. It's fun. It's science.
