Dig the Bear!

Whew! The Scalzi family is back home and back as one unit once more. Krissy and Athena had been in California all last week, and then over the weekend I traveled to the Washington DC area to see friends and attend a party. It was an excellent party; I'll spare you the details except to say the food was excellent (good), I was exposed as the "weak link" at the foosball table (bad), and I won the 2am "DJ Smackdown" against my friend Johnny A when the CD player refused to play the track he had chosen. It was a TKO, to be sure. But I'll take what I can get.
Mostly, however, I just want to share with you the picture that hangs above my friends' fireplace. I mean, just look at it. There are many questions to ask, such as "is the bear actually walking on water?" or "how many claws does the bear actually have?" But mostly you just want to stare. Really, I can't get enough of this picture. I want a poster of it. You may think I'm mocking, but I genuinely like this picture. Trust me, the more you stare at it, agape, the more it grows on you.
Your thoughts on the bear? Don't be afraid to share.

The red bear was painted by the owner's uncle, Don Parker at a family reunion in 1995. It was originally hanging in the home of the owner's brother. But following years of admiration for the red bear, the owner's brother gave it to him as a wedding gift. Scarry I know, but this painting has the ring of heirloom, doesn't it?

The Artist's name is Don Parker, he lives in Michigan with his wife (also an artist) on a blueberry farm.

I love the bear. He seems to be upset that someone is entering HIS part of the pond, lake, or whatever it is.

My, that must have been a good party! : )
(Just teasing...I like the bear...very Fauvist.)
