Rock Hall of Fame Inductees
This year's inductees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were announced today and they are, in no particular order: George Harrison, Prince, The Dells, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne, ZZ Top and Traffic. Want to know what I think? Sure you do!
George Harrison: A sympathy vote. He had one truly excellent solo album (his first, All Things Must Pass) and the rest were kind of, eh, you know, there. But when properly motivated, he was a heck of songwriter, and indeed he was a Beatle. Plus he lived well and died gracefully. You can't argue. Now the real question is: Will Ringo get in as a solo artist? Don't bet on it.
Prince: No argument. No brainer. The man's a geeeeeeenius. A freak, sure. But a good kind of freak, unlike... well, let's just not go there for the second day in a row.
Bob Seger: Sure, why not. Good solid meat-and-potatoes rock and roll from the heartland. My father-in-law loves him. My wife loves him. I might as well love him too.
The Dells: Again, why not. Not changing your lineup since 1960 has got to count for something, and they're beloved in R&B like Seger is in Rock & Roll. Fine by me.
ZZ Top: I think it would be remiss not to have some Texas Boogie in the hall of fame, don't you? Although they still have to answer for that "Velcro Fly" song.
Jackson Browne: Eh. Talk about "Running on Empty." Yes, yes, all you boomers. Let him in. See if I care. But others did the SoCal rock thing better. I wouldn't vote for him.
Traffic: Utterly underdeserving meandering prog-folk that ought to filed under "voted in because someone was high." I could see my way clear for Steve Winwood to get in given his entire musical career -- maybe -- but giving it up for Traffic? I mean, why not put Blind Faith in the Hall too?
Discuss amongst yourselves.

Shush with the Blind Faith talk, don't give any ideas. Next thing you know, they'll be wanting to induct Asia...

Blind Faith makes more sense than Traffic, although neither are deserving. And Jackson Browne never ever makes sense. Is lawyers in love worthy? Never.
