Hearing Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? -- Moby
Shiny New Toy
Number one on my list of Unrealistic Gifts for Christmas: The Archos Video AV380, which combines a 80GB hard drive (which can store about 75 standard length movies, or 4000 hours of music, or a few hundred thousand picture files, or varying combinations of all three) with a 3.8 inch video screen, so you can take it just about anywhere and watch your movies or play your music or view your pictures and totally ignore everything that's going on in the world around you. And who doesn't want that?
Why it's unrealistic (for me, anyway): It's currently priced at $899. I guess I could afford it, but then Athena would want to know why Santa stiffed her this year. And that's no good. Besides, at the current rate of electronics devaluation, if I wait a year, I can probably pick one up next year for $30. But next year they'll have something else supercool at the same price point that I'll want more. It's always something! Stupid consumer society, making me want stuff!

Don't feel too bad you're not getting it, the reviews weren't that good. I'd asy wait a couple more generations before looking into a device of that type.
