Hearing Bring the Boys Back Home -- Pink Floyd
Words. Words. Words.
Quiz: What do the words baggage, cabbage and defaced have in common?
Besides they're all words in the English. Jeez, that's a given.
And the fact they have seven letters each.
And they all have repeating vowels.
Look, do you want to play this the right way or not? Don't make me turn this Journal around.
The answer: Each of the letters correspond to letters that signify musical notes; in effect, you can play each of those words on a musical instrument. Interesting, no?
More interesting words with interesting properties can be at the Fun With Words: Word Oddities. It's the most fun you can have with the English language without having your mouth washed out with soap. My personal favorite word oddity: the World War II battle known as "the El Alamein" which features three different iterations of the indefinite article in three separate languages. That's a lot of "the".
