Hearing A Smile in a Whisper -- Fairground Attraction
Thanksgiving Wrap-up
So, I slipped into a food-induced coma at about 9pm last night -- and since I don't actually drink, I can say with full confidence it was the food. Be that as it may, some post-turkey day Thanksgiving thoughts:
* I kept warning people about the dangers of deep-frying turkeys. But some people just wouldn't listen. Fortunately, only things got torched, not people. Just a reminder that when it comes to frying that turkey, a secret ingredient should be fire extinguishers. Sadly, not every deep-frying turkey story ends (relatively) as well.
* Scientists say: Turkeys aren't as stupid as you've been led to believe. No, they're not going to write a Broadway play (and if they did, it'd be a real... well, you know). But this whole "too stupid to come out of the rain" thing is a myth. A myth!
* An amusing story about exploding vegetarian "turkeys". My feeling is that if you're going veggie, don't make veggies a poor approximation of meat. It demeans animal and vegetable both.
* Leftover turkey recipes. You know you'll need them.

Heard an interesting leftover turkey recipe on NPR today: turkey pizza.
Make or buy a pizza crust - use mashed or pureed cranberry sauce instead of tomato sauce -- add chopped turkey -- top with chopped walnuts or pecans -- and, if you absolutely have to have cheese on a pizza, add a small amount of goat cheese.
I don't know if I'm brave enough to try it, but I might have to in a few more days. Either that or turkey shakes. -
This is hilarious and I have yet to click on the deep frying turkey link, which I plan to do because I have so many friends that said,"oh my gosh! I'm going to Home Depot to get a turkey frier because I'm gonna deep fry my turkey this year"!
