Hearing Simple Kind of Life -- No Doubt
Visiting Presidents
Even people who dislike President Bush or his policies would have to grant that his secret Thanksgiving trip to visit soldiers in Iraq was pretty darn cool. Also the idea that a sitting President of the United States could just sort of slip away while reporters and others are looking the other way is also a little heartening; the guy isn't entirely trapped 24/7.
Now, I understand some people are complaining that we were all lied to about the president's whereabouts (Amercians and the press were told he was in Crawford), but even I, a real bear about presidential honesty, think these people need to get a grip. I don't want presidents lying to us on matters of policy (or as a matter of policy), but announcing that the US president was flying into a recently conquered country, with insurgents everywhere, doesn't seem especially smart. I'm willing to let this one slide.
I also think it's swell Senator Clinton visited Afghanistan. I think that'll make everyone either happy with me, or displeased with me, but there it is -- I'm bipartisan on my opinions regarding politicians traveling to spend time with our troops on major holidays.

I agree with you. I can just see the surprise on our troops faces when Bush showed up. They really needed that!!
