Linking to Your Journal in Your AOL Profile

Look! Another question! Man, I'm just totally helpful today. The question, more or less:

"Hey! The AOL Profile thingie won't let me add my AOL Journal! What gives?"

It's true that there's no automatic setting for putting in your AOL Journal page at the moment (I suspect this will be addressed in time). However, that doesn't mean you can't add it in yourself. Click on my profile for example (just click on my screenname at the bottom of this entry if you're on AOL). You'll see a link both to my Journal, and to my Hometown page, which links directly to the Journal as well.

The Hometown page link is an automatic one -- that is, when you're setting up your AOL profile, you can just check a box to have it link the page, rather than having to type in the URL. On my Hometown page, basically the only thing I have on the page is a link to By The Way (well, and cute picture of my daughter), so there's little to do but quick through. This is admittedly a bit of a hassle, but I figure anyone interested enough about me to make one click will make two.

The direct link to By The Way is also fairly simple: I just went into my profile, clicked on the "Personal Quote" tab, and then added the link. Now, you'll notice that the interface doesn't include an "Add Hyperlink" button. But if you highlight the text you want to link to and click your right mouse button, one of the options available is "Add a Hyperlink." So there you are. (Update: A reader notes you can also drag and drop the Favorite Places icon of your Journal into the Personal Quote area. I wish I'd thought of that!)

(Note: This is how it works on Windows. I don't know if this will work on the Mac side. Any Macsters who want to tell if adding a URL is possible on your end would become cherished friends of mine).
