AOL Journaler SEKirley is an EMT who has had an enviable record in keeping people in his care alive until they got to the hospital. The streak ended recently, and he writes about what that means to him here.

It's gotta be rough. The question to ask, for him and I think anyone in his situation is: Did you do what you could? If you have, then that's all anyone could ask. I don't doubt he did all he could, and in that respect, his streak continues.

    We always do everything we can... I've even been in on codes where the person as been long gone, but the family is so distraught that we just code them anyway, for their sake... even though the chances of their loved one coming back is nil, and even if they did come back, they wouldn't survive long.  Everyone has their "time to go."  Sadly, it's not always a pretty picture, or after a long life lead... But, there are those miracle moments, when God has more time alotted for a person, when we can be "instruments" to "bring them back."  

    Scott's hands have done miracles.  They may be protocols, they may be "by the book."  But, indeed, they were used by God to save a life.
