Hearing Circle -- Sarah McLachlan
One For the "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" File
According to this article, two-thirds of all the e-mail out there -- and 80% of all e-mail in the US -- is spam. Ha! I can beat that. At this point, my non-AOL e-mail accounts are more like 98% spam: Two account designed specifically to be spam traps (i.e., addresses I use when someone requires me to give an address online -- which they then turn around and sell), and my "home" e-mail address, which was out on the Web before spam became a huge problem and there is now on every spammer's "master list." My AOL accounts are largely spam-free, due to AOL's aggressive spam-killing and the fact I limit most of my AOL addresses to accept mail from AOL members only, but at the end of the day, I have far more people offering me sexual dysfunction medicine than actually being people I'd want to talk to.
It's gotten to the point that actual legitimate mail often doesn't get to me or is dropped into my non-AOL spam filters -- which means, from a practical point of view, that e-mail is broken. After all, if mail you want can't reach you while mail you don't want can, what else would you call it? And here's an article with more cheerful news:
A junk e-mailer said Thursday he had cleaned up his act to comply with a new anti-spam law, but might resort to illegal tactics if his messages continue to be blocked.
Here's all I want out of e-mail: I want to get messages from real people. The first group that fixes e-mail so that's what I get is going to be my new best friend forever.

I had to laugh at this entry....I get spam on medicine for that "male sexual dysfunction" too. The only catch is that I didn't come with those options when I was born and they'd be as effective for me as Midol would for you.
Geez, you'd think the spammers would notice my name is Christina not Christian.
That one letter placement makes all the difference in the world ya know?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I also get spam for breast augmentation. Which I *definitely* don't want.
