Weekend Assignment #23: A Personal Time Capsule

Thursday afternoons mean a new Weekend Assignment, in which I give you a topic, you write them up in your own AOL Journal or blog and then come back here to leave a link. It's more fun than a box of fluffy kittens.

This week's Weekend Assignment comes to us from the far future:

Weekend Assignment #23: 100 years from now, your great-great-great-grandchild has been assigned to write a school report on your life and times. Help him or her by putting five things in a time capsule. The five things could include something personal or something that typifies the times we live in. One catch: It can't include a version of your AOL Journal (because that would be too easy, that's why).

Extra Credit: Put something in the box that would believe would be completely puzzling -- something they'd look at and say "What the heck is this?"

Here's my five:

1. One of my books -- probably one of my novels, but possibly one of the Book of the Dumb books, because those show off my sense of humor. But either way, a book would show what I did for a living, and I think it would give some insight into my personality.

2. A copy of Emmlou Harris' Wrecking Ball album -- so he or she could hear what kind of music I liked.

3. My wedding album -- because it's both formal and deeply personal, and you don't get much of that combination. Also, you know, I'm wearing a tux. I look good.

4. The letter I wrote to my daughter when she was born -- Because it's the moment I realized there were things more important to me than me. Also, there's an excellent chance my daughter would also be this g-g-g-grandkid's ancestor.

5. My checkerboard Vans -- because you can tell a lot about a person from their shows. Also, I would guess they'd be deeply amusing ("He actually wore these?").

The extra credit thing: An AOL CD. Because I honestly think there's a 50/50 chance it might still work. And if not: Drink coasters! From the past!

What are your five? Let me know -- I'm ready to get a glimpse into your family time capsule.

In one hundred years from now a time capsule will be found in San Diego Ca. It will turn up in a yard where an old house is being razed to create room for the new. An archeologist will be called and protocol will be followed. Found in the capsule were the 5 followoing items
1.My 1996 Guild D25 Dreadnought Guitar....Music is everything to me and i am full of hope that someone gives the Guitar a good home.

3.My camera...with the hope that somebody might see their world thru my eyes.
