Beam Me Up... To The Kitchen

Some guy made a house to look like it was in the 24th Century -- or more accurately, the representation of the 24th Century we get from the Star Trek series of television shows. And he's willing to make one for you, too!

Personally, I think I would pass. I think the Star Trek's 24th Century already looks a bit dated and bland -- all those humans in tight uniforms (there are no pot bellies in space) running around on high-traffic carpeting under recessed lighting and blonde woods -- eeeeeeeh. Pass.

And clearly, the 24th Century will look absolutely nothing like this; it'd be like asking someone from 1704 to imagine what 2004 would look like. They could not even imagine. I'd love to go back in time simply to present some New Hampshire farmer with a cell phone or PlayStation and watch him struggle to guess what function they could possibly have. Ha ha ha! Let's make fun of the primitives! Well, you know. To the people of 2304, I rather expect we're the primitives. At least, I hope we're the primitives.

Somewhat related to this: Scientists from 1954 imagine the home computer of 2004. It's not real -- some of the elements of the picture are from the 1970s -- but it feels right, which is to say it seems exactly like how people extrapolating from current life will imagine the future (although I have to say the boat wheel is a nice, incronguous touch). It's entirely likely I'll be alive in 2054; I can't wait to see what some smart-alec kid whips up to mock the here and now.

I don't particularly like that house.  I don't even know if we will be around in the 24th century.  That computer picture was hilarious! ~Val

I think I'd rather live in a house built in 1704. Margo

Going back to 1954 Oh My! It's funny...but the scarey part for me is I KNOW how to work a teletype machine...alot of my knowledge is now redundant, useless or passe...oh, well....Star Trek here I come.....Sandi

Those Trekkish designs seem to be mostly about wall panels and lighting effects,  especially in a room called the brig. Umm, we don't have a brig. We seldom have the need to lock up anyone up, even the dog. It's all king of pretty, but not compfrtable or livable. I didn't see anyplace to watch tv from a comfy futuristic chair, or a living quarters style bedroom (I would hope a real person gets a king-size "bunk"). Perhaps it's a tacit acknowledgement that once you leave the kitchen and the brig, you're going to go about the rest of your life in more normal surroundings.

I'd much prefer twenty-third century designs anyway. John was watching ST:TOS Season One yesterday. Now that's *pretty*!  We like bright colors. They're much more in keeping with themidcentry modern asthetic in our own decor.

I think I'm going to have to write this up properly...!

oh yes, I can see having one of those computers in my home!  I think by the time 2304 comes around they'll be driving cars in the sky like  in the Jetsons! LOL Look at cell phone technology......those older ones are dinasaurs compared to what's out there today....and by older......not even 10 years ago!
