Cola Review

Picture from Hometown

By the Way readers of a certain age can be forgiven in thinking that "Holiday Spice" is the name of the quickly-forgotten sixth Spice Girl, the one that was only around for the group's ill-fated Christmas album, but in fact it's a new edition of Pepsi, which, as the packaging suggests, is "Cola spiced up for the season." While I'm normally a Coke drinker, I was curious to see how Pepsi would mess with the formula, so I bought a bottle.

I took a swig, and was magically transported back in time to the early 90s: This stuff tastes exactly like Pepsi Clear, the late and not particularly lamented variety of Pepsi that existed just long enough for everyone to realize that clear beverages were not inherently better than the ones with caramel color, and indeed might even be worse. Certainly Pepsi learned something, since clearly the caramel color is in this one.

Anyway, if you've been jonesing for a Pepsi clear for most of the last decade, your soda ship has come in. I think everyone else might as well stick with their usual brand. This is one of those "interesting once" sodas.

Have you tried this stuff? What did you think?

    Hi John :)

Yep, I am a Coke Classic drinker as well, or a Cherry Coke on a mad day, but I gave it a try. It wasn't anything to write home about, or miss when it's gone or tell about to friends and family...very forgettable! What were we talking about again? LOL.

    Always, Carly :)

A taste of Pepsi Spice reminded me of my only visit to a winter snow resort.  As we walking the the lobby we were greeted with a wonderful scent of something called GLUG. (Pronounced gloog)  Hot spiced red wine with fruit.  Ambrosia.  Tasted as good as it smelled. I still remember the taste of GLUG (although I don't know how to spell it.)
Pepsi has aimed at a winter drink, and just missed the mark.  Maybe heated? No. Maybe with wine added?  No.  My next purchase was plain old Diet Pepsi.

    Ya know,
I also am an avid coke drinker.  But as usual curiosity got the best of me and I had to give this "holiday spice" a try.  I took one drink and instantly remembered the taste of Pepsi clear.  I had to comment because I thought I was the only one who remembered Pepsi clear.....  Anyone remember Pepsi kona (coffee flavored)  it was also available around the time Pepsi clear was.....

My 10-year-old granddaughter loves it.  I thought it was hideous.  But I don't like cola, so I'm not an objective judge of its variations.

The older I get, the less I want to try this weird-flavored cola stuff . . . and the more open I seem to trying Egg Nog for the second time in my life. The first time I tried it, it was AWFUL. Horrible stuff! I couldn't BELIEVE anyone actually thought it was good to drink.

Maybe this spiced stuff is all an acquired taste. In which case I'll stick with my spiced apple cider!
