Hearing Good Thing -- Fine Young Cannibals
zzzzzzzzz....
The best news I've heard today!
A study published on Monday found that people who sleep less tend to be fat, and experts said it's time to find if more sleep fights obesity.
"We've put so much emphasis on diet and exercise that we've failed to recognize the value of good sleep," said Fred Turek, a physician at Northwestern University.
Monday's study from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk covered 1,000 people and found that total sleep time decreased as body mass index -- a measure of weight based on height -- increased.
Now I know how I kept so thin in college. And to think people thought I was mad for sleeping through my classes! Ha!
Time for a nap.

Wait! Not so fast on the napping! Studies also reveal people who sleep over seven to eight hours a night are "more prone to dying."
Hmmmm. Now that's a lovely thought, isn't it? :-)
And FYI: The reason people who get only about four to six hours of sleep a night are at greater risk for obesity is because, when we push ourselves to the point of sleep deprivation, our brains crave glucose and then all sorts of bingeing can set in---just in case anyone out there was wondering. :-) -
hmmmm.....I think I need to contact these people. I sleep on an average of about 6-7 hours a night...sometimes even less and I weigh 112 pounds. I weighed more (120 pounds) when I was a teenager and believe me, I slept constantly then. I'll keep this in mind for the future though...I'm sure my turn will come!
Hugs, Trina -
That explains why I was so skinny when I was younger...I used to sleep 10 or 11 hours every night in my 20s! Personally, if there's a connection, it's probably just that I don't eat while I'm asleep!
