Dealing With Jerks

I'm getting reports that the same twit who spammed comment threads with porn ads is at it again. We're looking into how he managed it from what appears to be the same screenname and exploring the various options available to us. In the meantime, if this or any other jerk pops into your comments, remember you can block that screenname from sending you any more messages and you can also delete the comment.

Again, hopefully soon we'll have an official process for dealing with comment spam; until then, let me know about it and I'll get it dealt with. We're taking this stuff very seriously indeed. Thanks.

Frustrating as spammers can be...I follow the advice I pass on to my daughter...report the spam, block the name.  Such a pain to deal with.

In Romany, the term "Add Comment" means "Insert link to a web-page that features the hardest working girls in show business." Just a simple misunderstanding between English and Indo-Aryan language groups.....happens all the time.

    John,

I've recommended (and the J Editor noted) that AOL upgrade the blocking function with the ability to choose ... a radio button? ... to block all comments from the Master Screen Name and all of it's current/future sub-accounts.

We wouldn't even have to know the other screen names.

If we block "Account 7" and everything attached to it, then that should block "Account 1" (the Master Screen Name) and everything that belongs to it now - /and/ in the future.

If you /and/ the J Editor pass that up to actual decision makers, I bet more than a few twits will lose their ability to play their silly games.

I'm gonna post a "hey stupid me" comment here.  I had my first porno spam comment in my blog today.  I copied the entire thing, then deleted it and blocked the sender. Then I couldn't remember how to report it, so I came back to your journal, and there was a post about emailing you about it.  I copied your user name, and viola'!  My other "copy" was gone!  dang it.  I'll get 'em next time.
