Hearing Beat It -- Michael Jackson
Advertising: The Next Blogging Frontier
The Wall Street Journal looks at advertising as it relates to blogging: It's on the upswing, as some of the most popular blogging sites register thousands and sometimes even millions of visits a month -- but at the same time, the quirky nature of blog content makes some advertisers twitchy. You never know what you're get with blogs, which in some ways is totally antithetical to what advertisers want. It's a quandary, all right.
If you could, would you accept advertising on your Journal?

I would consider an exclusive with Popeil Pocket Fisherman. It's a handy dandy fun product that most people can afford. I'm allowing ONLY the KING of Gadgetry, Ron Popeil, to have a space on my blog every livelong day. After all, it's a product that enables one to throw off the chains of the work-a-day world and throw a couple worms on a hook, and boy howdy, we're doin' some high tech fishin' now! Ten minutes later I'm cleanin' dinner! I'll tell ya how I spell that product, F-U-N. Not to mention the income! Cha-ching! That's what Zig Zigler calls a WIN-WIN!!! Shoooot.
It's not like I'd be sellin' out to Depends or Gas-X. I could still hold my head up high and call myself an arteeest, which is what REALLY matters to me!
Ron-co meet Cyndy-co. Shall we see if the customers are biting!!!

Hi John :)
Yes, I would...depending on which company was asking me to wave their flag. There would be a very short list of those I would help endorse.

Hmmmm... well, if they paid me ;)....No, seriously, I would want to be able to approve the ad and product.... But, if I liked the product? Sure, why not?

The trade off for the Bloggers in that community is the blog is free. If a blogger is paying for the service then it would be ethical for the advertisers to pay for using that blog as a vehicle for their advertisement. Otherwise they are taking advantage of the good nature and causing jaded attitudes once the deception is uncovered.
