Hearing Keep it in the Family -- Anthrax
Technology in the Supreme Court
Tech geeks had their moment at the Supreme Court today as the justices heard arguments for and against the legal existence of file-sharing networks Grokster and StreamCast Networks. Entertainment industry lawyers are arguing that the makers of this software should be held liable for all the copyright violations that have happened as a result of the software.
Naturally, the software companies beg to differ, and suggest a ruling that made them liable could squash innovation because inventor would have to try to figure all the ways people would use their inventions that could cause them to get sued. It's interesting stuff, and stuff that will definitely impact how you use your computer, even if you don't use file-sharing to illegally download music or what have you. So check it out.
