Hearing Fall on Me -- REM

Cover Me

Picture from Hometown

First off -- thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes yesterday! It was a genuine pleasure to receive so many e-mails and e-greeting from AOL Journalers. Y'all rock, you know. It made me feel all warm. I had a great birthday, and the cake Athena made me was very sweet (both literally and figuratively). Thanks again.

As I've been keeping you all up on my the progress of my novel, I thought I'd show off this new wrinkle. For various business reasons (all positive, from my point of view), Tor Books has decided to change to cover art of Old Man's War for its trade paperback release, and also commission a matching cover for The Ghost Brigades, the sequel which I am currently writing. Here are what those covers look like. The artist here is John Harris, which SF fans may recognize as the artist who did the cover for the "Ender's Saga" books by Orson Scott Card. The trade paperback (that's the large type of paperback) will be out, I think, right around the holidays, while The Ghost Brigades will show up around March of '06.

Incidentally, this means that any of you who bought the hardcover with the original art (by Donato Giancola) now have something of a collector's item on your hands, particularly if you have one of the books from the first printing (it's now on its fourth printing). I'll miss seeing the original art on the book, since I think it's good and somewhat unusual for a science fiction book. But I also think the new art is cool, and I'm especially glad my publishers are actively supporting and promoting my books. And in any event, I bought the original painting from the hardback cover, so whenever I want, I can see it on my wall. That works.

Let us know exactly when it hits amazon, I'm going to get the sequel ASAP when it comes out (will it come in hard cover?).

    Keep it up John!

    Blessings,

    Sara

OOOHHH - so what you're saying is that I should mail you mine so that you can sign it - and then when my daughter is ready for college and you are rich and famous I can auction it off on eBay to pay for her tuition?
