Hearing This Woman's Work

I've Got Sith Syndrome!

The kids are working themselves into a spasm about The Revenge of the Sith, the final Star Wars film, which will start screening tonight, and which apparently will cause more than half a billion dollars worth of lost productivity as fervent fans take a "geek day" to see the flick fresh out of the film cans:

The Dark Side apparently comes at a high price. The Thursday, May 19 premier of George Lucas' final "Star Wars" installment, "Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," will put a spike in worker absenteeism and costs businesses $626 million in lost productivity, said a recent report.

According to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, businesses should expect a wave of sick calls from employees playing hooky Thursday and Friday so that they can take in the movie.

"With opening day falling on a Thursday, instead of the traditional Friday premiere, we are looking at two days of 'Star Wars'-induced absenteeism," John Challenger, the chief executive of the firm, told the New York Post.

I'll definitely be seeing it tomorrow, but then it's not like I have a boss, except for myself, and I've decided to look the other way while I go see the movie. Also, since I'm writing a book on science fiction films, and the Star Wars films are naturally a big part of this book, when I go see Sith tomorrow, technically, I'll be working. Sometimes being a writer is teh HAWTness, as the kids say.

So, uh, how's your throat today? Kind of scratchy? Will you need to "stay home" tomorrow to recouperate? You can tell me.

I got my ticket in my wallet waiting for tomorrow evening at 7 pm. :)

As Star Wars being a "stupid movie", well...you have the right to spout off, but us SW geeks love Star Wars and we show it!

May be Force be with you!

I will definitely be seeing this one in the theaters, but I'll be waiting until the possibility of running into someone in a costume is over. I'll tell ya, if I see one guy dressed as Mace Windu, I'm outta there! I figure next weekend is the time to go.

Ohhh...I feel something coming on... things are getting a bit fuzzy, ringing in my ears, getting kinda dizzy. Oh wait that's just from having a Star Wars Marathon movie blitz with my Star Wars Crazed daughter, the dancer. Well you know John, it WAS a sacrifice but since we can't garden together yet we had to get our family bonding in somewhere!
