Hearing Yellow -- Petra Haden and Bill Frisell

The Most Disturbing Pet Story Today

The good news: A dog saves his master's leg from amputation!

The disturbing news: The dog does it by licking his master's leg for up to four hours a day.

Now, forget the dog for a second. What sort of person lets a dog lick their leg for four hours at a stretch? I'm happy the guy saved his leg and all, but itsn't that, well, you know, really weird? I mean, my dog licks my face once, and that's more than enough.

I'm not suggesting anything untoward, mind you (shudder). I'm just saying, is all. And now that the leg is saved, I'm sort of hoping that the guy weans the dog off all that licking. Doggie biscuits, maybe.

When I was a child I heard of this sort of thing.  My parents told me that allowing   a dog to lick an open would it would promote healing sooner in humans.   I recently had an open wound on my foot that became infected.  I had agreat deal of difficulty controling the infection with antibiotic ointments.  I decuded one night to allowed my dog to lick the wound.  The wound improved within a short period of time with nothing more than the dog lick treatment.
