Great American Rhetoric

Here's a find online: 100 Great American Speeches of the 20th century, more than half with audio clips, from the American Rhetoric site. The speeches are largely from figures all along the political spectrum, with the occasional lawyer, author and minister thrown in for variety -- everyone from Emma Goldman to Ronald Reagan. It's a fascinating repository of how speech becomes both memorable and persuasive.

"Friends Romans. countrymen, lend me your ears!" Nothing like a rousing bit of rhetoric to get one's day going. The power of the spoken work to move and motivate the human spirit can not be denied. I shall be checking this site for some new pieces of rhetoric to share with the students in my Foundations of Literacy course. Appreciate you passing this along John.
