Hearing Vacation -- The Gems

Speaking of Vacations...

It looks like more people want to take them than can, this summer:

Only half of the people in this country say they are planning to take a vacation trip this summer, an Associated Press-Ipsos poll found. But 79 percent of those surveyed said they would travel this summer if they could afford it and had the time.

When people were asked to name any place they would want to go on vacation if they had the time and the money, Hawaii was the choice of 14 percent, more than any other specific place.

This goes back to my somewhat light-hearted suggestion last Tuesday that what we really need is a return to three months of Summer vacation -- I mean some people can't manage to even take a couple of weeks, and that's really kind of a bad thing, both for them, and for the idea that Americans are not really just about their work. Of course, here I am blogging while I'm on a vacation, so who am I to talk.

Are you planning a vacation this summer? Any place in particular?

Our last real vacation was 2 years ago - Our honeymoon- paid for by wedding gifts.

Last year my husband accompanied me to Las Vegas on one of my business trips and I took him to see Elton John - Red Piano - at Ceasar's Palace.  It is a kick ass, incredible show.

this year our vacation is being paid for with Alaska Airlines, Marriott and AMEX miles, from 5 to 20 years of traveling for business.  And we are going to PUERTO VALLARAT, MX - Casa Magna Marriott Resort.   Way nicer than we could afford, and all we have to do is pay for food, tips, taxis and sightseeing.

For the last 3 years I have traveled 50% of the time for business. I need a real vacation!!!!

I have a goup of friends that all get together in July and settle in for a quickie vacation for about eight days in Cape Cod.  It's just a laid back period where we hang out on the beach during the day and catch the theatre (summer stock) about twice.  We dine out and just enjoy the company of fine friends.  Just mix this with a little sunshine and lots of laughter and you've got the recipe for a relaxing, enjoyable vacation.

During the winter, I usually take a heavy duty vacation to somewhere like Thailand, Cambodia, Morocco, Greece, etc.  At the end of last year, I flew to London, spent the week there and returned on the Queen Mary 2.  Wow!

I feel these trips have allowed me to understand and respect  social behavior and cultures that are so different from those in the states.

Travelling independently allows one to explore and experience the venue in a way that is not possible in an organized group.  True, travel in a group is safer and easier, but it can't compare to the adventure and surprise awaiting at every turn.

Well, John, I guess I am one of the lucky ones .... I just got back from Hawaii.  It only took me thirty years of marriage to get there, so I figure it was about time.  This summer is a bonus for me.  Right after we booked the Hawaii trip, my husband and I were invited to England on business, so we are taking a few days for ourselves in London, too.  After too many cancelled trips, we are finally getting to see the world.  Tina

Yeah, I'm planning my vacation for, uh, sometime in the far away future. I work full time during my school "vacations" and I'm a full time student. Now, I'm going to have two jobs: a bank teller and a math tutor. And I'm getting my own apartment now. A vacation sounds nice, but I have too much work to do!

By the way, can you help me find a ms virtual machine for my easy designer homepage. Thanks! I need it for the charitable site I'm trying to make (I don't take donations, I just post charitable sites on it).

    Blessings,

    Sara
