Thoughts on Traveling

Well, I'm back at home and it's a pretty nice feeling. One of the things I told Krissy as we landed back at the Dayton airport is that traveling is great, but getting home is better. Even after a very nice trip -- which this was -- it's good to be home. And your cats are always glad to see you.

We did have one fatality over the weekend -- Butterfly, one of Athena's fish, has mysteriously disappeared. I don't want to suggest I know what happened to it, but I notice that Mariposa, the other fish in the tank, looks positively obese now. Since Mariposa was not adverse to occasionally taking a nip off of Butterfly's tail, I naturally suspect the worst.

One thing I do wish they could fix about air travel is that whole "hub" system. Don't get me wrong: Detroit and Minneapolis-St. Paul have very fine airports, but honestly, the only time I want to visit them is when I'm actually intentionally planning to be in Detroit or Minneapolis-St. Paul. Otherwise I'd prefer to get where I'm going directly. A direct flight to Madison from Dayton would be about an hour, maybe an hour and fifteen minutes; as it was we spent close to five hours from the moment we stepped on the first plane to the minute we stepped off the second. There needs to be a better way.

Once again, allow me to compliment Madison, WI for being such a fine city, with lots of things to do and many things to eat, which is why I will now be starting a diet, thank you very much. But it was worth it (burp).

Welcome home. If we stray too long from the homefront the feline clan can get downright snooty and snub us for a bit. However, they can't resist for long the tempting cuddle and snuggle, and of course feeding time!

My understanding is that the concept of "Hubs" is supposed to make air travel more efficient. Centralizing personel and equiptment. Not sure if it's working so well though. Traveling can be quite stressful with all the checkpoints and gates to remember and managing the carryon luggage, I tend to bring the limit.

Must agree with you viewpoint of Madison, fine city in all respects. One of the hidden gems of the upper midwest.

Glad you made it back home safely and had such a nice trip.  I know your family was glad to see you.  We had a Hamster who ate her babies and a rabbit that ate her babies.  Eeeeewwwwwww!  My daughter was so upset.  I am sorry for Athena's loss.  My first thought was a cat had gotten it since they go after anything that moves, lol.
