Hearing Vertigo -- U2
Anger is good for you -- in small amounts, that is:
In maddening situations in which anger or indignation are justified, anger is not a bad idea, the thinking goes. In fact, it's adaptive, Lerner says, and it's a healthier response than fear. Chronic, explosive anger or a hostile outlook on the world is still bad for you, contributing to heart disease and high blood pressure, research shows.
The new research supports the idea that humans have more than one uniform response to stress and that fear and anger provoke different responses from our nervous systems and the parts of our brain, such as the pituitary, that deal with tough situations.
The results were published in a recent issue of the journal Biological Psychiatry.
I will admit to you that I'm kind of a "get angry" sort of fellow -- I spike up pretty fast, although I like to think I don't stay angry or get angry inappropriately (mostly...). I think getting angry is fine, but the entire point of getting angry is that you can get whatever's bothering you out of your system and you can start dealing with it rationally, rather than forcing it down and choking on it internally for a good long time. Naturally, your mileage may vary with this, and I'm perfectly willing to say I've met some people who think anger is a fine response to every little setback ever, and the term for people like that is: Jerk. I try not to be that guy.
Do you get angry? Do you get over it?
