Hearing Baby Got Back -- Jonathan Coulton
Your Friday Music: Baby Got Back
Yes, you remember the massive rap hit "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot. Now imagine that in an alternate universe it was Dan Folgelberg who graced the charts with this particular hit. Can't imagine it -- indeed, your mind rebels at the very thought? Then you shall not be prepared for Jonathan Coulton's version of the song. Nevertheless, you must listen. Not listening is frankly not an option.
It should be noted that Mr. Coulton is general a pretty damn funny singer-songwriter; my favorite tune of his, which I may have shared before here, is "Skullcrusher Mountain," which is what a love song would be if it were written by a mad scientist. Really, there's no way something like that could not be good. Check out some of his other tunes and if you like them, by a CD or otherwise send him cash. Because music this damn strange doesn't happen for free, yo.

I should also add that there's a James Taylor cover of a DMX song out there somewhere... I'm pretty sure it's "Y'all gone make me lose my mind, up in here, up in here."

I'm thinking "Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads would be a more appropriate tune this week...

I have a version of "Gin And Juice" by a jug band on my Real Player.

Wow....talk about a HUGE difference.
