Hearing Nothing at the moment

Install in Process

On the off chance you're up between 4am and 6am Eastern time (like, uh, me), you might have momentary access problem as a new install goes in for AOL Journals. As Joe has noted, this new install will, among other things, add a disclaimer to the advertisements, noting that the ad is not an endorsement by the journaler, and will also add a diving line between the ad and the journal. It also will address the issue with saving Journal entries. Depending on when you read this, you may already see some of these changes.

If you are having trouble updating between 4 and 6am, try waiting until after 6am to update; that should clear things up.

If you are having troubles updating after 6am or otherwise have comments, go ahead and put them here.

Update: 9:10am -- looks like there was an install problem.

Haven't checked out the journals yet but I did notice today that on the opening screen for AOL that right under the Target add it a Feedback link, clicked it and found a survey from AOL about the add with 2 areas to actually write your opinions, had never noticed this before. Now the question will be, how will this effect the adds themself, I for one hate the flashing moving adds.

I went to blogger a long time ago because of the ease of use it offers, adding pictures and even video is so simple there and that was what I was looking for, especially the adding video.

gee.... why don't they back the ads out too? That would be a cause for celebration. judi

"If an install doesn't work to perfection, please don't assume it means AOL is practicing mendacity; accept the *possibility* that there was actually an error in the install."

Well, this is AOL, after all. Screw-up does seem to be their middle name. Has been for the five years I've been a member. Realistically, though, I know that nobody else is any better off. Software and hardware conflicts are the norm in the computer business.

And here I was hoping that the glitches and strife would ease off as we move toward Turkey Day.  I feel for ya, John, and Joe, too.  A large, complex program (or suite of programs, such as AOL) with a long development history (over 12 years) can be cranky and unpredictable when you try to change pieces of it.  But good grief!  Lately it's been one glitch after another over there.  Just when I start feeling that maybe I'll revive Musings, AOL gives me a reason not to do it.

Hang in there, John.  Eat your turkey tomorrow, and think of pilgrims and natives (and microbes) instead of programmers and subscribers.
