Hearing Andy You're a Star -- The Killers
Couple of general notes, not necessarily related to each other:
* Journals Editor Joe has an update on tech and banner ad issues here, including an explanation on why some banner ads seemed to disappear over the weekend. No, they weren't taunting you. Joe notes there's been quite a bit of internal discussion about it, and I can second that, so if you were wondering if folks on the inside have been waiting for it to all blow over, the answer is no, not really. It's an active subject. Whether these internal discussions will translate into changes regarding the banner ads is another issue entirely, of course. At the moment, the ads still look like they're staying put.
* To segue away from banner ad issues and back to me me me, allow me to show off the first review of my upcoming science fiction novel The Ghost Brigades, over at the book review site SFReviews.net. As some of you may know, I've been a reviewer myself for the last 15 years, mostly with movies and DVDs, so it's kind of fun to be on the other side of that equation with my book -- well, fun to the extent the reviews are positive; negative reviews are somewhat less fun. But even then it's still interesting. One of the good things about having been a critic myself is that I think I have a better sense of how to handle criticism than many writers; I know it's about the work rather than about me (mostly, anyway). And it's fascinating to see how other views of your work differ from your own, even when those views are positive. I like it.

I think they know. Caring, however, is an entirely different matter. -
I opened my journal and lo and behold no ad! I said to myself "Be still my heart"..not believing it was gone, I clicked off and back on again....hoping my eyes weren't deceiving me...Oh, no...it came back like a bad dream. Whatever are the powers that be thinking now? Evidently these ads are affecting your whole system...flashing can't be good. To change the subject, that was a great review that you received. Your book sounds very interesting to a sci-fi freak as I am....good luck with it....Sandi http://journals.aol.com/sdosc

Best wishes on the new novel. (And forget the negative critics; they don't know what the hell they're talking about anyway.) ;D
Actually I just figured AOL was putting its holiday decorations out over the weekend, little twinkling ads. On and off. On and off. Hey, that's a great idea. Are there any openings in the marketing department?
